A Lesson from Biblical Atlantis

The ancient city of Atlantis has been the subject of debate for years. This city state was said to exist in the Atlantic ocean as a large island. The great philosopher Plato was perhaps the first to bring this ancient people to light. History records for us that these people lived just beyond the pillars of Heracles now known as the straights of Gibraltar. But was there really a city named Atlantis? Or did the Greeks name it Atlantis to simply point out the geographic location. What was the name of this ancient people? We have yet to uncover the secret behind their culture. There has always been debate about Atlantis; its age, religion and how advanced they were in technology. There have been theories ranging from space aliens and long dead giants who built not only this ancient city but the great pyramids as well. One question that generates a great deal of debate is the approximate age of this former civilization. Was it before the great flood? And could it have been built by the great bible figure Noah and his sons. Why Noah? Well for beginners you would have to be a pretty good carpenter when you can build a ship capable of holding the numerous animals of the world and said to be as large as a small ocean liner. Noah and his sons shed some light on just how advanced ancient cultures must have been. When you consider the logistics needed to construct this ancient vessel we know as the ark it's just plain staggering. Think about it! Noah would have to build the ship. Then put it in dry dock large enough to support this vessel. And after all this set this ocean liner in place so that it simply floated out of the dry dock long before it ever started to rain. And before all this Noah and his sons would first have to cut, shape and join the raw timbers some more that 50 feet across. While joining with mortise and tendon any cross beams needed to support the structure. There is no record that I know of that reveals what kind of metals were used for the tools of the day. They could have used bronze of some type but that like so many other things, falls into the area of speculation. My hope is that much of our speculation will be answered when the ark is fully investigated. The required knowledge and skill of Noah and his sons to cut, fit, join, shiplap and overlap to secure the differing types of wood is a marvel that any builder today would envy but couldn't begin to equal. This would require a unique understanding of building practices using massive pieces of lumber and timbers that would have taken scores of men to lift into place. Just as the ancient stone builders of ancient Egypt fit together massive stone works together with the tolerances slimmer that a piece of paper. The big difference here is that Noah and his whole family consisted of only 8 people. Everyone else laughed at Noah and there is no record of anyone supporting their quest to obey Elohim. So who were these very unusual people of God who built the great ark and perhaps the fallen city of Atlantis? We really don't know much about Noah and his family. Was he a hugh man by human standards of today? A man of such great physical and personal power yet He was willing to serve the Lord. Truly this man has a heart for God unequaled by so many in the world today. Obviously Noah and his sons were men of great physical stamina and strength as well. But much more than this they were men who willingly obeyed the living God. So great was their conviction to serve God that even when the world system ridiculed them they continued to obey the living God. Truly these were men of renown. The scriptures tell us that the world was a very different place then. And modern science confirms that the earth may have had an atmosphere twice the pressure of our current time. Should this be the case then Noah and anyone who lived at that time would be larger and stronger than people today. But were they smarter? It is my opinion that many of us suffer needlessly because of the condition of our current spiritual environment. This would affect our ability to develope a clear and concise understanding of who we are in Elohims eternal plan. And for the most part I believe that this is precisely the case. Just as the people of Noah's day didn't really understand who they were and why they were here, WE TODAY ARE IN DANGER OF COMMITTING THAT SAME MISTAKE. So how can we undo the damage that we've already done? A simple remedy from the word of God, we must REPENT. Only if we are willing to repent of our wrongs toward Elohim can we get back on track. Or else we will suffer the same fate as the people of those lost ancient cultures. And just like them we will have nothing to look forward to but complete annihilation.
